Destiny 2, by David Ames

In ties we walked among them.
Hints of unspoken accolades.
The proud flag on a ship
riding, not ruffling the sea of small town movements.
I can take you a picture.
I can map you her curves,
But no matter how deep your gaze,
You cannot tell me what and how this body moves.
It is a mystery.
And the best you can do is watch it with reverence,
And captain your ship, my friend.
And you have my ready hand
If you steady your course for the horizon.
Because I’m ready to sail steadfast and true.
Not to the concrete promise of a distant shore,
But to be made tough, resilient, and wise
By full commitment to the voyage itself.

About Jessica Lee

Jessica is a twenty-something poet who performs most of her work on stage in Spoken Word. She has found writing therapeutic since she was child, and has pursued it ceaselessly. She enjoys writing even the most fleeting thoughts and dreams as SensicalRavings. Between long retail shifts, she enjoys writing observational pieces (always with a slant) of locally relevant subjects as ALLGainesville. If you appreciate inspiring, coming-of-age suppositions, become a follower. Though it's not always roses, it's raw!
