Take Today

Why wish for tomorrow?

You have only today.
And, by the time tomorrow has arrived,
it will be yesterday.

It’s so hard to see the Building
as you add each little block.

Each day spent over-worked and exhausted,
Makes perseverance a cynical prospect.

But a year has passed,
or two or more,
and your efforts have been evidenced.

Each concerted action,
every painstaking day
was shoring up your needs,
building toward your destiny.

And where your efforts before had teetered,
your accomplishments now tower.

To understand what can be achieved,
and with and without what efforts,
your faith will not waiver,
your foundation will be firm,
and your next tower,
will be built faster,

and much taller.

About Jessica Lee

Jessica is a twenty-something poet who performs most of her work on stage in Spoken Word. She has found writing therapeutic since she was child, and has pursued it ceaselessly. She enjoys writing even the most fleeting thoughts and dreams as SensicalRavings. Between long retail shifts, she enjoys writing observational pieces (always with a slant) of locally relevant subjects as ALLGainesville. If you appreciate inspiring, coming-of-age suppositions, become a follower. Though it's not always roses, it's raw!
